As a member of my high school newspaper, The Pine View Torch , I contributed to each of our four publications: the high school paper, the middle school paper, the elementary school paper, and the website. Being on Torch allowed me to figure out my style of leadership, and gave me a platform to express my opinions, whether they be political, or film-based.

After four years, I’ve become the Assistant editor-in-chief and I’m really going to miss being on staff. I’ve done so much more than just write, but here are some of my favorite articles that I’ve written.

In this story, I covered the effect that social media has had on the field of comedy, and how sharing comedic skits on social platforms takes the jokes out of context — subjecting many comedians to “cancel culture.”

This was a humor article that I wrote in conjunction with another staff member, where we argued over which wholesale retail chain is superior — Costco or Sams Club.

This was a super fun article to write, mostly because it involved some investigative journalism. The story concerned my High Schools recent drawback on environmental outreach, and involved interviews with the county Superintendent, my school principal, two retired teachers, and the Sarasota Environmental Alliance.

In this opinion story I covered the issue of bias amongst the organizers of large social protests. This was an issue that was very personal to me, as I had decided not to attend the Women’s March a year or two back because of the antisemitism that was present among some of the founders of the march.

This Sci Tech story detailed the effects of Schandenfreude and its presence on school campuses.

This was a front-page News story that covered the “AP culture” at my school, more specifically the way in which students feel more pressure now than in previous years to overwhelm themselves with AP classses.

This story was incredibly fun to write, it was about a student who had recently found her biological brother through an ancestry test.

This opinion story was written during the early days of COVID, and concerned the lack of COVID tests available, and how that reflected upon the governments incompetency in handling the situation.

In this opinion story, I discussed the abusive nature of prison guards, and how loopholes in state law allow certain guards to get away with excessive maltreatment of prisoners.

Movie review of “Murder on the Orient Express.”

Show review of “The Politician.”

Show review of “Derry Girls.”

This was a news story about the theatre club performing “The Mousetrap,” and was one of our first experiences doing a multimedia post on the website — incorporating a video made by the newly-formed broadcast class.
